This truck is still having shifting problems. and its still throwin a VSS Code a code PO500. Any ways of testing a PSOM or is this a possibility of going bad?
I am not sure of the VSS code, but I am wondering if it is related to the RABS Rear antil lock brake sensor. I know it controls a couple of different systems, ie: cc, speedometer etc. I would try removing it and cleaning the sensor. It is worth a try.
So that is the same sensor? I wasn't sure. Check the wiring to see if you see any breaks.
Sam, just to clarify. the VSS is in the housing of the rear end and the RABS is on the driver side frame rail by the tranny. you will see the brake lines going to it. was that your question about the same sensor???
Yes. I have not had any problems with either one so I have not touched either one. I thought that they were one in the same. Thank you for clearing that up for me.

They are. There's no sensor in the breakout box on the frame rail. It's the "output" of the ABS, the place where brake hydraulic pressure is adjusted front-to-rear. The sensor (the "input") is indeed the one in the (rear) diff. It's been said, here and elsewhere, that the part is typically listed as a RABS sensor, and if you go in asking for a VSS, you'll get the wrong part.
Is it possible that the part that the RABS picks up is loose or missing? I am not sure what it looks like in the rearend but maybe the problem is in there.

There is a tone ring that bolts onto the carrier with the ring gear. I guess it could be crapped up enough to cause a problem.
