I would ask this in the other forums but I know and like you guys. My Dad's '05 6.0 has one of those keyless entry deals where there is a keypad on the door. You can enter a code and the doors will unlock and the alarm disables.
Last night, his truck was broken into and the in dash Alpine DVD/GPS unit was stolen. There is no damage to the doors, rear slider or windows. The thief was able to open the door, roll the window down, pull the hood release, disconnect the batteries and then proceeded to remove the unit from the dash. Nothing was torn up and it was all disconnected neatly. This ******* knew what he was doing.
To me, this had to be someone that had either a remote for the truck or he had the code for the doors. Any of you guys have experience with this system? Is it easy to crack? How would we go about changing the current code?
Myself, I think this was an inside job of sorts. My Dad has lots of people that work for him, from gardeners and some guy that details his vehicles. The rolled down window leads me to believe that someone had a key...
I wish I was in California right now so I could find the meth head scumbag that did this and take care of him. Hopefully, this will be all that is needed to finally convince my parents to leave California and move to small town Texas.
Anyway, if any of you have advice or experience with this system, please let me know.
Scott, sorry to hear about your dad's truck. Really makes you feel violated and helpless.
I was reading about keyless entry systems and read that there is the capability to have a code reader that will read the vehicle's code wirelessly and allow the person to open the doors. I hadn't heard about this before but sounded legit.
If he never changed the code from original it could be that they all come with a default code. Puttin the windows down though definately someone with a key of some sorts. He does not leave a spare key in/on the truck somewhere does he?
When you change the code the original code is still in the system and will still unlock the door. The trucks come with a little card with their owners manual that gives you the factory code for your truck. Most people don't realize that and leave those cards in the pretty holder in their glove box along with their manuals.

The code is also printed on the keyless entry module under the dash. A friend of mine forgot the code for his and his daughter's trucks, so I looked on the module for the original default code. You can open it with this code even if you change it to another one that you set.
I would look closely at the door. The window down seems to indicate that the door could have pryed back enough to insert a rod, or flat bar, to access the buttons on the arm rest.
