Truck Stalls While Driving

I have a 1999 Ford F350 7.3 Diesel. While driving down the road the truck completely dies. Typically will start right back up. Cam sensors have been changed and computer shows no errors. Problem occurs appox. 4-6 times a year. Has anyone else expierenced similar problems or have any suggestions?

These are the symtoms to a tee when my stock CPS started acting up. Quite possible you got a bad one and its doing it again but others will offer their insight, welcome to FTE..

Mine was doing that. The only two things I did was replace the CPS and unbolt my IDM and make sure the plug was tight. I unplugged and replugged it. Mine has not stalled since. I suspect it was the CPS but I cannot rule out the IDM plug because I did them at the same time. Not saying this will fix your issue but it worked for me. I would replace your CPS again if possible. And welcome to FTE.

My truck seems to stall out when I let off the gas and am slowing down. It is almost as if the revs don't come back up fast enough. Same symptom? Might be cps time.

Welcome to FTE.

Tell us more about your problem. Does it always happen in the same temperature range? What dash lights flash or stay on when this happens? Do you happen to have the windshield wipers on when the problem happens? Does it happen within a day or so after a rain?

Outside temperature does not seem to have any affect on the issue. Nor does the truck temperature; it can happn soon after starting or after i have been driving awhile. As far as the instrument panel the Service Engine Soon light comes on. Weather conditions also dont seem to be a factor. Happened twice today and the truck fired back up immediatly in both instances. Authorized Ford Dealer replaced the stock CAM sensor; then took it back to them and they could not find the issue. Getting frustrated.

Clint, Yes it also stalled out with the old sensor. Seems to be getting worse and happening more frequently.

Could it possibly be a loose UVCH plug? Seems a little to intermittant but maybe? Check all the harnesses for a chafed wire also. I have read of problems like that in the past. Wish I could remember specifically where the problem was. Does it happen after hitting bumps or potholes or just whenever?

Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to help narrow things down.

Try swapping the IDM relay out. (with like the blower motor relay.)

The common one is the main engine harness near the 42 pin connector. That's the square box with a bolt in the middle of it over the drivers side valve cover. Check the wires below the box to see if they've been rubbing against the valve cover and check the wires coming out of the back of the box to see if they've been rubbing on the bracket.

Check the wire to the CPS to make sure the plug is seated well and there are no issues. Also check the wires going to the IPR to make sure the insulation has not become brittle.

That, I think, is indicating a slight bleed off of HPOP pressure or a sticky IPR valve.
If you still have your old engine, I would try swapping out the valve first.

Camper,

Hitting a pothole or bump is not the issue because it has happened going down a paved highway on cruise. Is it worth replacing the CPS sensor again IYO?

This is when mine kept stalling also. The bumps didn't seem to affect it like you would think. Check for the chaffed wires.
