I've noticed over the past few days a patch of "wet" under my truck when parked for a while. It drips down center and midpoint under the engine. The quantity of leak is not large, perhaps 1/4 cup dipping over 2 - 3 hours.
Because I've been sick, I was unable to do anything about it, but today I got a mechanic friend to track it down and he told me that it is diesel fuel, "dripping down from somewhere on top". He's not a diesel mechanic and is unwilling to start taking parts off.
Can you folks give me some idea what should be looked at first - second?
I can take it to a reputable diesel shop I've used before, but if this something simple my mechanic friend could do himself, I'd be grateful for your help.
open hood, remove cover that says 7.3 ( two nuts) look at filter housing you might need a mirror to see the drain on the bottom side of housing, yellow handle
We have now replaced the fuel filter. In doing that we noticed the yellow handle was not fully closed.
But that doesn't seem to have solved the leak. The leak is very slow and my mechanic friend tells me it originates somewhere in the region of the valve...I assume he refers to the yellow handled valve used to drain out water.
Does anyone here have some exploded drawings of this assembly?
Can individual parts be obtained to repair the leak, or must I get a compete valve assembly?
