bare with me, i have a 84 f250 i use for plowing, its been working great, went to start it and turned the key you could feel it broke inside, i pulled the lock cylinder and yes it is busted, so i think it was left in the start mode, the problem i have now i used a screwdriver to see if it would start, i have no power, no light , so i checked the switch where the rod goes to and i have no power there, i cheched fuses, all good, i am stumped,
Can you slide the switch any? Could it be stuck in between the contact points?
Do you have head lights?
There should be constant 12v to the back of that switch harness. I believe the yellow wire with the gray connector on the passenger fender feeds the cab and has been an issue before with getting hot and melting the connector. Check that but sounds related to the ignition switch since it's wacky when the key broke. Try activating the switch by hand and see if that works.
also you could try taking a pair of channel locks and jumping it under the hood by touching the 2 terminals (one on each side ) of the starter relay located on the passenger side fender
First things first if you think it was left in the start or run mode did it drain the batteries.
If you can push the rod down that goes to the ign switch it should work if getting power.
If no power getting to switch look at the grey connector on the passenger it will have 1 large wire on one end and 2 on the other these are famous for the connector corroding and overheating and most have been bypassed by now. PS you may have to remove some of the flexible tubing yo locate it the wires are large and yellow.
the batterys are good, fully chargeed, i will put the switch back on and see if it will work, and i will check those wires, also if i put the wires on wrong on the selnoid could that be a problem, back words??
no thats why i went got a new one, now when i put in the switch in the wire harness i am not getting anything, so i left the switch like if was on and i jump the selanoid i have power in the cab ,but no starter
neutral safety switch or starter connections. Cab is getting power, starter relay clicks when jumped but starter won't turn over correct? Check the wiring from the solenoid to the starter.
