i just bought a 76 f-100 swb w/360 automatic, its sat for 6 years and i just replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, coil, starter relay, distributor cap, rotor button, and the battery. was hopeing itd fire right up but it doesnt do anything when i turn the key, wont even turn over, any ideas on where i need to start?
does it turn over by hand? if it does you could try to jump start it at the solenoid or while turning the key have someone check for power at the starter
If the engine won't turn over, do you know if the engine is locked up or not? Is the battery good, are both positive, and ground connections good, clean and tight. Started could even be bad. Could try "tapping" the starter then try to crank it over....
im gonna try messin with the starter but i think i aint gettin power to the key cause when i turn the key to the on position none of the electrical will even come on and the battery and terminals are all new
ok so still no power to the key but i tried jumping it by sticking a wire from the hot battery terminal to the s terminal on the starter relay, the first time i did it it actually turned over and jumped me a bit ( i really wasnt expecting a motor that had sat for 6 years to turn) but when i tried it again all it does is click, i thought it might of been the starter but its not and the relay is still good to, i just wana hear this thing run any more tips would be great
well after putting the starter back on and double checking all the main wires for tightness and whatnot, i actually got it to start, kinda, would only run off starting fluid, but made me happy it runs (makes me think its worth the 300 i paid) i am atleast getting power to the key now cause when i turn it on i can actually turn on lights, radio, etc., but i still cant start it from the key. this is the issue id like to fix if anyone knows what it could be
im gonna try the ballast wire, when i turned the key my brother said he heard a small click from around the coil, coil is new, dont know what the click could be
i just had an idea to in a way fix my key switch problem, like i said im gettin power to the key but it wont start my truck, im not tryin to make a show truck out of it or nuthin and the only way i can start it is by jumping the starter relay so im just gonna put a push button start on it, quick cheap fix to my problem
