Alright as some of you may know, the entire front end on my truck is new. Finished her up yesterday
Now, I have run into an issue I have read lots about on here but have never actually seen the types of answers i'm hoping to find (so this should be a value added thread)
I have a severe vibration felt through the steering wheel and seats. This vibration is severe and violent.... however only occurs while in the following conditions:
1. Truck is going faster than 45
2. I am actually on the throttle, as soon as foot comes off, it goes away
This ONLY HAPPENS FASTER THAN 45! As far as I can see there is no RPM correlation to it at lower speeds. I have experimented with several ways trying to isolate where it's coming from and here's what I've found
1. It IS NOT front end related
2. Possible origins (that I know of) are driveshaft u-joints, tires, and perhaps a transmission mount?
Now everything appears in good shape, rear u joint greased well. Front one looks fine, all mounts appear good, and tires are so-so. As I just spent all my money fixing that front end, any one have any good tricks to really pinpointing this issue?
My truck sat for a while and yesterday when I drove it I noticed an odd squeak coming from rear brakes, could this be related? I figure the squeak will work itself out but i'm going to lube rear brakes anyway. If this were just a missing wheel weight wouldn't I feel this shake at lower speeds?
Thanks in advance for your help! Oh also I found out I once again have my job back in Grand Rapids! I need to have my truck in tip top shape by January 4th to get there!
This may sound ridiculous, but I have a similar problem and noticed that the front of my bed is touching the cab of my truck. The front of the bed was pushed out by a large load of gravel. I have yet to try to push it back but am thinking it may be the cause. If not I will be checking in with what you found.

since the vibration is only occuring when you are under load it could be the pinion angle, but you said your u-joints look ok that's not good enough drop the drive shaft and move the joints by hand one of them could be binding, did this problem just start? is the bed loaded? are the tires at factory spec to low of pressure will drive like crap
Well one of the u-joints i newer, the problem has been around for a while but I always thought it was coming from a bad wheel bearing/ or my bum front end. Now its all fixed and here it is... I'm begining to question if its really the drive shaft due to some engine trouble that developed an hour ago and if it were the drive shaft wouldnt it show up all the time, not just when i'm on the throttle?
the two piece is worst for vibrations I used to put one piece driveshafts in them under warranty, but definetly take a look at the front u joint you definetly need to pull it out and check for binding
As I spoke earlier this week with you about doing my front axle shafts as well, I noticed a vibration in mine although it doesnt sound as bad as your's sounds but....
My vibration is only in the throttle but I noticed that it was only when my hubs were manually locked.
If you have manual hub locks, I would check that they are unlocked.
I have mostly chalked my vibration up to "it's just the 4 wheel drive."
I'm definitely interested to know what you come up with maybe we have twin trucks or something.(wow that sounded gay, sorry)

definitely very gay. Nah I'm just messin with you I see what you're sayin. I have Warns in my truck and they are unlocked. When in 4x4 it does get a bit more shakey but I have no need to go 45 or faster in 4 wheel yet.
Ok I admit one of my favorite things to do is drive 60mph at 3a.m. from diveway to driveway when I'm plowing.
It's so nice to carve through snow without all the little slow cars in my way. What an adrenaline rush. Of course all the drivers in those little cars are probably saying "4 wheel drive not 4 wheel stop" while I'm thinking why would I need to stop, I'll just do a "pit"(plow in trunk) menuever and push your *** out of my way, I got money to make.
I havent done that move yet.......... close but not yet!!!!

I know what you're talking about all too well, I just dont have the plow. When I'm in Flint and commuting to GR my buddy and I always drive out together when there's a bunch of snow on the ground so we can pull each other out if we get stuck. It essentially turns into a snowy drag race through the middle of the night down M-57 from clio to greenville. 2 winters ago when there was about 14 inches on the ground we made it from Clio to Greenville in an hour flat. Now I dont know how many miles that is or how long its supposed to take, but god was that fun
