Question SRT Engine Reputation

So I was talking with a friend and he(like most people) claimed numbers I didn't believe. He said something about SRT-4s being good engines, because every 17 and 18 year old hears SRT nowadays and thinks "Extremely FAST!". I said that the SRT-4s were pieces of crap that every just made a big deal about for no reason, and that it wouldnt last 5K miles anywhere above 400HP to the wheels. Well he told me that he knew someone who had 800HP to the wheels coming from an SRT-4, and I called bull, but he is the type who isn't wrong when it comes to cars. Does anyone think that it would be remotely possible to hit a number well over 500 on a 4 cylinder SRT block?

Turbo and a few extra parts, 500 horse. Yup. Engines like that don't last, but then no engine built to that level of power per cubic inch is going to last long. 800? Maybe with nitrous on top of the turbo for a few seconds.

That would be hard 800 to the wheels means around 1,000 at the block. Maybe with a turbo and supercharger with a HUGE shot of nitrous but I'd have a hard time believing you could build that engine to handle that kind of power for any real amount of time.

Figure drag cars running that kind of power get their engine torn down all the time to keep them running.

I think 500HP is all you are going to see even out of the best 4 cylinder engine blocks. It is just a lack of displacement that keeps it at a low drag number. 500HP would satisfy my needs all day, and would go far past them too, but 4 cylinders are not made for the world of 8 second cars.

HP is a calculated value, not a measured one. Given enough RPM's, even the nitro-burning engine in an RC car (about 1/2 cubic inch displacement) could put out 800 HP.

Most of those engines are making that HP figure at 8000-10,000 RPM, which is nowhere streetable.
