460 Ideas, Suggestions, Information, Needed
I have a '78 F-250 Supercab 4x4 with a 460 / C-6 / 4.10 combination. The 460 was put in the truck about 15 years ago and is beginning to get weary.
I am looking for ideas / suggestions for a fresh engine. I am past the point where I need most, if not all, the horsepower available. A smooth running, reasonably economical, dependable engine is what I am after and all that I need.
Not really interested in converting to EFI, but I wouldn't rule it out. Just not my first choice.
Not opposed to changing to a 429 or even back to a 400.
Here are my minimum parameters.
Able to run on pump gas.
Smooth idle at 650 rpm.
Reasonable economy.
Decent power. I occasionaly (6-8 times a year) tow a loaded tandem axle trailer with a gross weight of 7,500 pounds.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. If you can include specifics, such as pistons, heads, cam, ignition, intake and carb, that would be great.
