Insight- What do you really watch?

I just got my insight today andI want to know what I really need to watch. I know the EGt's are crucial so what is the max EGT for a few sec's? Also, I thinl it's displaying the coolant temp so what does that need to be? I just want it set on the most crucial things and to know what those limits are.
Thanks guys

How many will the insight let you watch? I would watch these in this order
1. Egt shouldn't let it get much over 1300-1400
2. Ect no more than 220 deg. Should stay between like 190-215
3. Eot no more than 10-15 deg difference between the ect and the eot
4. Tranny should stay around 180 I think. Don't remember for sure on that one though
5. Boost 25-30 max if stock
6. Battery volts
and the list goes on and on the last three can be changed around for personel prefference, and these are just my opinion. There will be others that will post there's. Good luck with what ever you choose and keep a close eye on them.

It will let you monitor 16 events, mine is setup as 4 per page, and I have 4 pages. I guess you are aware that you need the optional pyrometer thermocouple probe that must be installed in the exhaust manifold.

I watch the following...#1) EGT (normal driving between 450-600...max boost 1250, idle 320) , #2) Mod Volts (I don't even turn on the headlights until I see better than 13.5 volts...it generally runs around 13.5-14.2...during GPCM cycle its around 9.8-11.5...too low to put any loads on it yet), #3) Trans Temp (again nothing crazy here until at least 100'F...at normal operating temps its between 160-165'F and according to Mark K...thats where she should be), #4) ECT (generally runs hotter than EOT until EOT passes her up...but it stays around 185-190'F at normal op temp), #5) Diesel EOT (runs around 190-195...200 if running hard), and #6) Boost (this actually stays pretty consistent with the OEM analogue gauge).

Very similar results for me. My main screen displays EGT, ECT, EOT, and Trans Temp. ECT usually 190-195. EOT 200 at highway speeds, lower around town, Trans 145-150, as high as 165 with summer towing. EGT's just depend on boost.
Also monitor voltage, boost, rpm. Got one screen set up with TC ratio, input and output shaft speed, slip. Just like to keep an eye on the trans.
But there's all kind of things you can monitor, intake temps, injector pulse-width, etc, etc - you'll probably play around with different settings until you figure out works for you (I know I did!)

Unfortunately you're gonna need separate gauges for those. Insight doesn't support fuel and oil pressure on our trucks. I think 08+ you can read fuel pressure, but still no go on oil pressure.

Edge does not write to the PCM, therefore no footprint...its a glorified Scan Tool....works great for what it does. The cable that comes with the Insight is long enough to reach the overhead across the windshield.

Before you take the plunge and buy a Insight, inquirer about a longer cord. You will not reach it with stock cord, you have approx 30 inch's from overhead to A piller then you have a few feet running down the piller to the door/dash area, then it has to turn to reach the steering colume area. The factory cord is 5 feet 3 inch (63 inch)
