I JUST BROUGHT A USED 2002 F550 7.3L DIESEL MANUAL TRANS TRUCK. IN THE MORNING OR WHEN THE TRUCK HAS BEEN SITTING, WHEN STARTED TRUCK PUFFS WHITE SMOKE TILL WARMED UP. ALSO, BURNS 1-2 QTS OIL EVERY 1000 MILES OR SO. LOSING HORSEPOWER. OIL ON DIPSTICK LOOKS THIN/WATERY. WHAT MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM?
If you haven't done so, yet, I'd change all fluids and filters, following Fords specs. The white smoke is probably unburned fuel, and the oil usage could be leakage as easily as anything else. Clean the engine off really well and start looking for leaks. Leaks would most likely show up in the valley on top of the engine, at the valve covers, or at the backs of each head where there are drain plugs. If the HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump) is leaking oil, that could account for your power loss. The HPOP is on the top of the engine, at the front of the valley. So long as the oil isn't milky looking, it's probably either a 5W40 oil, or it's just been in the engine too long. If it is milky, then you could have problems with the head gaskets, a cracked block, or pin holes in the cylinder walls. Good luck.
Welcome to FTE. As LuckyDog said, change the fluids and filters first. Low oil or the wrong type can cause a power loss. Let us know if there are any signs of oil in the bottom of the fuel filter bowl.

Welcome to FTE!! and congrats on getting (IMHO!) the best engine Ford put under the hood of a Super Duty!
THANKS! FOR THE INPUT. ALSO, I DID NOTICE PUFFING SMOKE FROM THE OIL CAP INTAKE, COULD THIS BE A BAD RING?
These motors tend to smoke. Different oil and different miles on the oil will affect how much or how little. Flip the oil cap upside down and lay it on the fill tube. If it shoots off from compression coming out the tube, you need a rebuild. If it just kind of vibrates itself off, the smoke is completely normal and you should be fine for another couple of hundred thousand miles.
