My most recent truck purchase is my late 04 f350 90k miles on it. I bought it in October from a ford dealer and bought the ESP extra care. Since I have had it I have changed trans fluid, coolant, fuel filters, rear diff and t case oils.
Anyway i used to be a service writer and no to keep all my reciepts.
I took it in for an oil leak , recall and running roughly when cold. It needs 5 injectors and a rear main seal, covered under ESP. Ford is asking for maintenance records, I told them I bought it in October and can't be responsible for anything before that, my advisor agreed with me, and I gave them the reciepts of what I've done so far.
My advisor doesn't think they can deny anything and that they ask for this stuff once in a while. I'll be pissed if they do, I don't see how they can but these days who knows. I have always had good luck with ford esp warranties. The previous owner was a ford tech and maintained it so I don't know what they are looking for. Anyone else experience this lately?
Just had to vvent and am keeping my fingers crossed.
Interesting question, so I'll be watching to see if they give you any problems.
When I bought an ESP on a used vehicle, I had to let the dealer inspect the truck. This was before the 36/36 had expired. So theoretically, this should assure them that the truck is in good condition at the time they write the ESP, and further theoretically should give me a pass on maintenance records prior to the underwriting.
I have no idea if that is true or not. But I'm sure that the more time that passes between the time you buy the truck and new warranty, and the time you actually make a claim on the warranty, the better for you. How long has this been?
To deny the claim, they will have to show evidence that some lack of maintenance was the cause of some failure.
I have never seen ford hold anyone but the current owner responsable for the truck and for only the time that they have owned it.
If push comes to shove you bought it at a dealer and there is noway a dealer can release any information to you as that would be againt the fredom of information act. My .02 on that

Well yes and no. FIA would not give him access to Fords records because it only permits you or I to have access to the Federal Government's Records.
OK. let's see if I get this right. I know I can't check record if it's been serviced at another place such as a independent dealer. I might not be able to access WHO the customer was prior to me buying. BUT, am I wrong believe if maintenance was done at a Ford dealer that the Truck info and only that wouldn't be given? Or am I not understand the question? Could be, I'm tired and have taken the good meds!
Cause The FIA isn't what ya'll really think it is! If it was as binding as you believe, then CARFAX would be out of business!
The rules at the shops that I have worked at sence that went down only records from the truck and current owner can be given to the current owner. Now that may all be because of excess fears and excesses of lawyers, but none the less if it wasnt you then you most likly well not get them.
I have one in today. a 6.4 with 21k miles and 2000 hours cant do anymore till I see records. thats 50k in milage based on time (hours) its a hugh fleet as well. that means they have to supply records for 10 oil changes at minium. its gonna make someone mad.
