So i was reading diesel power (the bible) and saw a article on ATS' intercooler for the 94-97 powerstroke. it looks good but i'm hoping someone has this and can give me an idea on how it works while towing. Since i bought my 97 for towing and hauling crap to the dump here and there.
I dont know how well it works, but I live near ATS here and have been to ther shop a few times, and it has been my experience that when talking with them and seeing their prices their stuff may work but it is really overpriced for what you get. Especially when it comes to intercoolers, the only one worse on pricing is banks. You can easily do what a lot of people here do and retrofit a intercooler out of a SD for a whole lot less $ and be just as good.
Do you have EGT trouble with your current setup? Unless you have a chip, aftermarket injectors, or both, you probably won't see much benefit from an IC other than a lighter wallet.
I wouldn't worry about the intercooler unless you getting bigger injectors. With wild tunes and intake and exhaust i had a hard time getting over 1150* unless i was pulling a long grade (several miles) and even so just back out a little than get right back in it.
If you do intercool i would get one from a 6.0. they are bigger and more efficient than a late 7.3. I think for mine i got a take off unit from banks and a set of pipes from both a 7.3 and 6.0 and between the 2 made them fit mine
i've heard about puting a 6.0 IC in the truck but how bad do i have to modify the core support to fit the tubes? The Methanol injection is not a bad idea... will look into that. what is a good recomendation?
