is there any way to test my eec? because i had thought i fryed the original computer in my truck so i got another computer off my prts truck and it is doing the same thing. so im thinking if the original is fine then its something else but i dont know how to go about testing it.
Take a step back. You aren't really asking a good question that anybody can answer in a way that's likely to help you. The more information you give about your problem the more likely it is that someone can help you.
Tell us about your truck. What motor, what transmission, what is it doing, how many miles on it, any modifications, any recent repairs, etc. Why do you think you friend the computer?
ya i gess i shuld have done that....well its a 1989 ford f150 4.9 I6 5 speed 2wd. the truck i got the computer out of is a 1988 ford f150 4.9 I6 auto 2wd so im 98% sure its the same computer but if there is a way to test my original one and its good i would much rather use it that way i know it is the proper one for my truck. the reason i am having trouble with this in the first place is i was in a hurry one day and my battery was dead so i grab a set of boster cabels out of the shop but i forgot they were weird they were made for our old tractors with positive ground and i hooked them up like they are supost to be and all my gauges went backwards then i heard a POP witch i was told my eec buring up. but evan after changing my eec its still the same thing my check engine lights are on and i have no fule pump. i tryed hooking up my fule pump direct but it still wouldnt run but it would on gas you spray down the trottle body.
The computer should be fine. Check all your fuses, including the ones under the dash and the ones under the hood, and check your fusible links behind the battery.
i checked all the fuses under the dash and the fuseable links awhile ago and they are all fine so im thinking its one of them little black relays on the drivers side fender but i duno how to check them ither
First with someone at the EEC Power Relay turn on the key and see if clicks.
Also see if the Fuel Pump relay clicks at the same time and drops back out one second later.
If EEC Power Relay clicks you need to ground pin #6 of the EEC Self-Test connector then turn on the key and see if the fuel pumps relay clicks when the key is turned on and if so do the fuel pumps run?
Let us know what you find out so we know what to tell you next.
The high pressure fuel pump wires from the rear go to the Inertia switch in this diagram.
Push down the button on top to reset it.
