A long time ago I bought a chebby wagon for the demolition derby. When I first looked at it, it had the typical McD's fries on the floor the family wagon has. When I picked it up, it was all cleaned up with fresh wash job and Armor All shiney dash. As I was leaving, the guy came out with a jug of windshield washer fluid and topped the reservour off and told me to take good care of the car, and how good it had been to him. I didn't have the heart to tell him my plans.
Now that is funny. I would have brought it back after the derby and parked it in his driveway.

now that is mean! lol lol lol
i know with my truck, as soon as its finished (sometime next century maybe!) i will be driving over to the previous owners house, and show him what me and my father have done to it, as the previous owner really Mickey Moused things on this truck, and did a real shady body job on it, but its now a swb 4x4, as it was on a swb 4x2 frame before, and its the same color combo (see my signature picture for before picture of the truck) and it now has modern colors, (Ford) Colorado Red and (Ford) Performance white,
anyways to connect to the original idea of this thread, i got my trucks frame for $500, which is a 1977 F-150 swb 4x4 frame, got it complete with 9" rear end and Dana 44 front axle, and NP-205 transfer case, and the frame just had surface rust, and actually had some orignal paint on the frame in one spot, which is as rare as Hens teeth around here in Ontario, and the rest of the Rust belt region, thus my frame was a steal of a deal to me, maybe not to a person from out west or down south, but around here they told me at the wreckers that if they even could get a frame like i have, they would ask $2,000! and that is for the frame alone!
so come North, you can make big money on vintage and classic cars/trucks,
Yeah, it's really sad to me when people are so attached to something, and I'm just gonna scrap it. My grandpa had an old 80's escort broke down in his yard for about 10 years. My aunt lives there and takes care of him, and she really wanted to get rid of it, so she told him my brother needed a car. He reluctantly agreed to give it to him if he could fix it. It went strait to the crusher. We did give the money to my aunt though.
As far as good deals, I won't buy a vehicle unless it's a great deal. Some of the better ones:
I bought a v6 Ford Probe for $200, put a $300 trans in it, drove it for years and sold it for $1000.
My Father in law gave me a '77 Dodge t100, he knows I like fixing stuff, and he didn't want it anymore, if it wasn't me it would have been another scrap metal collector. I haven't even went to get that one yet.
I bought my '74 F100 302 3.03 for $300, sold the parts I didn't need (trim, interior, etc), made $25 profit in the end and still have most of the truck in running condition.
I bought a '78 F100 351w/c6 for $400, sold what I didn't need, made $300 profit, and still have a drivable truck, not to mention the engine is a D1AE.
I bought a '92 F150 302/e4od (bad trans) for $500. My brother bought the rims/tires, rear bumper, bed and cab w/interior for $300 (he's my brother so I cut him a deal). Still have the rest of it, as well as a brand new $400 aluminum tool box that was on it and a Minn Kota trolling motor.
My most recent purchase is a '90 F250 HD 351w/c6 (seized engine) for $300. The guy threw in a bunch of computer parts, an antique guitar and a TV.
All of these always come with random tools and vehicle fluids.
Papa john had placed a reward for his old Camaro he had sold for some reason. When he found it, he had a special, free pizza to those that showed up in a camaro...... or something like that.....
bought a running 93 lincoln mark VIII for 600 dolars took 4.6 DOHC and trans, radiator, and computer sold the 3 cats for 75 a piece sold the rims for 25 a piece then got another 350 at the crushers
I scored a FREE rust-free bed for my 1973 F250. It needs a little body work, but over-all it's probably an 8 out of 10. At this point, I could probably get more $ for the bed than I could for the rest of the truck... IF I wanted to sell.
Just for ****s and giggles my personal best is a 69 falcon I got for 500, put in $150 and sold for 3200. I also kept the brand new ultra rims and tires off of it. (I got two sets with it).
I got my truck for free. (in my garage) The engine has been rebuilt very recenty to my suprise. The person that gave it to me got the truck when they bought a landscaping busniess, thought it was junk and gave it to me.
I put an ad on craigslist,"Will remove junk ford trucks for free" ....A fellow called and told me to come pick up a 78 f150...he had pulled the motor and didnt want the rest of the truck. I picked it up title and all........brought it home, sold the grille shell, fenders, front suspension, rear axle, and the doors then scrapped out the remaining box,cab and frame.... The total amount i made from my 'free' truck was $600 bucks...i have done this 3 times now.....
Strictly dents? Then no, mine is a money loser. Too much initially, and I'm still sinking money into it. It's been fun rebuilding it though and worth it. It's almost where I want it to be mechanically.
I did buy a SHO Taurus for $250 that was running on 4 cylinders. I took a chance on it being something stupid knowing the history of the PO and sure enough, two of the plug wires were reversed. That was 2 years ago and I'm still driving the hell out of it.
