Mustang II front end in a 76 F100

I'm a new member so if someone has done this and I haven't seen they're post before asking again I'm sorry
I'm lowering a 76 F100 by using a factory mustang II front end and was just looking for some tips and/tricks to making it work good the first time. I've already did a rear axle flip to get the ride height where I want it and the truck has a 390 and a c6 so it'll probably be a little on the heavier side but with all the after market support I wouldn't see that as a problem. I already have 17" wheels for up front and 18" in the rear any help would be appreciated

Box the frame and make sure to get the geometry correct for the MII. I suspect you will find the stamped steel a- arms out of the donor mustang II will end up being too weak. I chose to use aftermarket tubular arms. After all, the front end of our f100 and the 390 are ALOT heavier than the original Mustang II and 302. You will need to box the frame to make it rigid enough, I boxed mine all the way from the radiator shell to the cab to keep it from flexing. If my memory serves me correctly, you will need to split the cross member and widen it to fit the frame width on your f100. once you do that you need to get an extension for the rack because you track width will end up being 60.5 rather than 58????? I cant remember the exact numbers. I do know that your rear end track width will now be 65. I did end up narrowing my rear end so that My track width matched the front. Which also will allow me to stuff more rubber under the fenders. (provided I ever get it done.)

Did you have to cut out the trucks original cross member or can you get the mustang II suspension to fit around it. Thanks for all the info

Yes, all of the original suspension and crossmember needs to go. You will need to mark the spindle positions so you can get it all back in place in the right location. Temporarily welding braces across the frame to keep everything alined when you cut the cross member out is important.

The Crown Vic front suspension looks better to me and much cheaper. I would really like to do it myself.

I already have the complete mOI suspension so I was hoping to set it up with stock parts and upgrade to the tubular arms before I drive it. And I was hoping to keep as much of the stock cross member as possible but I guess if push come to shove I'll just have to strip the engine back out. That's what you get for trying to take the easy way out.

Your going to have to get a rear sump oil pan if you run the 390.

I have both and right now the front sump is on so changing it out wouldn't be a big deal but I'm still up in the air as to which way I'm gonna go mII or drop beams

the MII will give you a much more drastic drop then the drop beams. It is however alot more involved.

Yeah I'm only looking for a couple more inches to correct the stance after flipping the rear axle plus I'll have 17's up front and 18's in the rear which will help
