I have a 02 powerstroke and i am having starting problems. I live in Mn and its cold here but I keep the truck in the garage thats heated. It started right up this morning and ran for a few mins then died, I started again and it ran for 20 seconds and died and continued to do the same thing until my batteries were dead. I had the CPS replaced last year. Any help or sugestions would be great
change the CPS again? check the fuel filter, make sure the fuel pump is making nose. If possible check the fuel line pressure, check to be sure your air filter isn't full.
where is the best place to buy a CPS? Feul pump is making noise, I put a fuel filter in this summer is there a way of checking the filter? As for the air filter, what do you mean about being full?
I bought a gray CPS from Autozone for $25 today. Check your fuel bowl, it is right behind the black "Powerstroke" cover you see when you open the hood. It is literally shaped like a round bowl. You will see a yellow plastic lever behind it. If you change position on that lever, diesel should leak out. If it doesn't, then fuel probaly isn't getting to the fuel bowl.
There is a meter on the air filter box. make sure that it's not going to the red. Your air filter should be clean and not full of dust and dirt.
Best place to buy a CPS? I'd give clay a buzz. You can get his info from Riffraff Diesel
Fuel pump making noise indicates that it's at least working but doesn't rule it out as being faulty. Hopefully someone that knows more will chime in and help you out some as well.
nope, something else is wrong. It shouldn't have these symptmos. My truck is outside all the time, it's currently 24F here and my truck starts without a hitch, most do. It smokes a little when it's cold but doesn't shut off. It'll actually start to idle up once it gets decently warm to help warm it up faster, but that's because I don't have an exhaust back pressure valve.
If it's fine the rest of the day then I doubt it's the air filter, it could be the fuel pump going out.
Have you checked your ail level? Oil is critical in these trucks running correctly.
Do you have any mods on your truck?
Can you give us the year, model and milage on the truck?
Try swapping the CPS, and if you fuel pump is making noise you need to check your pressure and see if you are getting much. Check your fuel filter as well.
