the steering on mine was way bad when i got it , i had it replaced with one a shade better than an advanced auto part model. its a lil better, i tryed to adjust the scrw in a tad and it didnt do much so i didnt wanna burn it up by overtightening. its ok at best, sucks for me i gotta tow a 5,500lb trailer with mine this spring, i did it twice end of this summer(with the old box) and it was spooky to say the least. ive only put maybe 1k tops on the new box, is that a good break in period?
deadeyedevon After reading your question again you did not say you have the Red Head box. I was talking about my Red Head doing fine without adjustment. It just took awhile to turn easy which was not really a problem. This page is what convinced me to gamble on the higher priced box last year. Red-Head Steering Gears

Reason: More info
if you are towing that much get yourself an ez-lift tow setup. i run one on my travel trailer and it helps greatly.
of course make sure your tie rods, ball joints and bearings are tight. I am still running my rear sway bar also and no sway bar upfront but have dual front shocks.
