EBPV question

When should the valve be coming on? Idle right? well mine always comes on when i'm crusin' at 55 mph. I know it comes on when cold but this is ridiculous. anyway the question is, do i have to just unplug the connector or do i have to wire the valve open with the valve unplugged?

I'd rather have it working than not working. Diesels do not like running cold. I have had to overhaul way too many diesel cylinders due to scoring up in the North Atlantic and Pacific. Boy was that cold!!! Even down here they need to run at least at your thermostats temperature. I have a brand new thermostat and blocked the front of my radiator a week ago. Today I took the fan off. It wasn't making enough heat to keep my wifes feet warm. That's too cold.

X2 .. on RRranch. Actually after two years on having it unplugged I plugged it back in last weekend. I'm simply tired of the knee knocking and teeth chattering experiences this winter getting the rig up to temps, even with the block heater plugged in.

I was going to start another thread on this subject but don't have enough data yet.

You did that for 2 years??? You must not be married. Or not married anymore at least. My wife would have left me a long time ago for that.

But to answer your question, yes .. just unplug it and the problem goes away. Can't say for a fact but I think something in the fuel has changed this year as can't seem to get the BTU's as last year and a lot more smoke on initial start.

Been married since dirt was invented. I won't let her drive it by herself so many times we just take her rig .. 98 Blazer, good grief that thing has heat up in a few miles. But it is a 4.0L and I get better millage that it does.

I THINK THE REASON SOME ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE EBPV IS THE TUBE FROM THE END OF EXHAUST TO THE BPV SENSOR IS PLUGED AND NOT SENDING DITTA TO THE COMPUTER.

That's possible. I've been doing a lot of research on this and if the BPV sensor does not see the initial closing (back pressure) of the EBPV on start up then it should disable the operation. Also I did not realize until recently the PCM pulse modulates (20 HZ 12 volts) the EBPV from 0 - 99 percent depending on IAT, EOT and BPV sensors feedback. I was quite surprised after 2 years my EBPV does still cycled on initial start up.

At 55mph your at light load and if your oil temp is to low
the valve will cycle.

I drive my wife everywhere. Her employees and coworkers think I'm really special or something. In reality I just don't want her wrecking another truck and her parking spot is way too small too so I drive her.
My ebpv was on all the way to work this morning. I didn't get above 60 because the engine never got warm really. It was 15 degrees out.
I'm pretty ticked off now because when I got home I checked my tstat temp and it was only about 165 and the rad cap was only holding 8 pounds I think. Those parts are less than 4 months old!!! That's mostly why my engine never warms up. I'm running with no fan and the radiator covered too.

Seems a little odd to me. We had similar temps (and a LOT colder) here lately. With mine plugged in and and 195 tstat fan still in, and no cover over the radiator, my water temp is at 140* as soon as I start it. and within 10 miles at 180*. I have my EBPV disconnected and wired on a swtich to use as a exhaust brake. Sounds to my like you simply got bad parts and should be a lot warmer.
