T-Stat Question

I put a new OEM t-stat in last year. It wasn't a pretty picture. I tried doing it myself. I can usually do the simpler things without issue. Unfortunately, this turned really bad. I ended up losing 2 of the three original bolts. I got some replacements from Ace hardware. I ended up cross-threading one of the bolts and managed to snap the head off. I took it to the local shop in an emergency and they socked me for it. $600 later I had a new water pump. He said he tried to get the bolt out, but couldn't do it.

I still have the new t-stat in there from last year. I've been thinking about getting a 203* from dieselsite.

I live in Southern MN and it's starting to get cold (tomorrow's high is 3*). I drive about 15 miles to work daily. It's almost all highway. Unfortunately, there isn't a really good route. I can't go more than about 3-4 miles without having to turn, stop or go up a big hill. My last tank (front and back averaged) got me about 12.5 MPG. I do have a winter front on the truck. It seems to have helped, but it still takes more than halfway to work for the t-stat to finally open up. Cab heat is OK, but not the blast furnace it was 2-3 weeks ago.

I've read some complaints about the longevity of the dieselsite 203 for the $50 it costs with shipping. What are others thoughts?

not to add insult to injury, yes they got you, but you learned a valuable lesson this time. thermostats, in my mind should be changed every 2 years with your coolant. i would try the 203* out. if you dont like it, go with a stocker next time. might want to think about removing your fan clutch assembly too. also possibly wiring your ebpv to a switch so you can keep it closed. just food for thought

Put something infront of your radiator... With those short miles putting the 203 stat won't be that benefical.
