Can anyone tell me if Kansas plates in 1952 had truck plates? I have found many plates for a friends truck but none of them say truck on it. so just curious if they had seperate plates for cars vs trucks. thanks
I am originally from KS, but don't remember way back then. If I were you I'd call the DMV in Wichita and ask for one of the old timers that has worked there the longest and ask them.
I could tell you all sorts of things about Washington license plates, but not so much for Kansas. A quick Google search turned up a couple things, and near as I could tell, there is a separate truck plate from standard passenger cars. 1952 reused the 51 plate revalidated with a metal date tab in the upper right corner, shown in this example. It is a car plate.
A nice NOS 1950 pair for a truck, identified by the big "T" at the beginning of the number, is on ebay right now. 1950 KANSAS License Plate Pair - eBay (item 230411247325 end time Dec-18-09 12:12:06 PST)
Quick answer yes they did. I have a 51 base plate which says TRUCK down the left hand side just to the right of two letters RC which are stacked on top of each other. Then there is a 52 registration tab that attaches to the plate. When I can get a picture of it I will attach it for you. I am not that in the know on Kansas plates so I don't know if there were a pair or single that year.
BEFORE you buy any old license plates to install on your vehicle, find out by calling your state DMV FIRST to see if the number is clear.
Some states used the same number or letter/number sequence off and on over the years, some states today use number sequences on motorcycles that were once used on old license plates.
In CA, the non commercial plates used 1956/62 / 1963/69 have the same sequence of letters/numbers.
Newer truck commercial plates in CA use the same sequence of one number, than one letter followed by 5 additional numbers that were used on CA plates prior to 1956.
Spending the coin to buy a set of vintage plates...then finding out you can't use them...because the same number is currently in circulation, will prolly tick you off!
