Oh, the other time the switch comes in handy is on really steep, tight, long uphill tows on hot days. Those climbs so steep and tight 1st gear is necessary. The PCM is programmed to not lock up TC in 1st as it is just too herky jerky if you're not perfectly smooth on throttle. There is a 20 minute climb going up to one of my favorite campgrounds where I need it. Without locking the TC, the trans temps start getting too high for comfort after 10 minutes or so on 105 degree days....

Admittedly, that is a very rare situation. But it is a reality for me several times a year so I like the switch.

You do have trailer brakes, right?

What I have is a 14' 2 axle dump trailer, empty 4200 pounds, loaded 14800 lbs, and It has electric brakes, it stops ok when traffic conditions are fine, but when
somebody suddenly decides to stop in front of you trying to skip traffic , then its very hard to stop, and thats when not only I feel the need of a parachute like REDFORD suggested, At that time i which to have a time machine To send that crazy driver you know where , but it definitely ensures a healthy heart , ha ha ha

With a full load, can you lock all 4 trailer tires? If not, that is the place you need to start.

When I applied the brakes having more than 5000 lbs, i don't recall locking the tires at all and of course not a small chance of locking them with 10,000 lbs, which is the max load on this trailer, I install new brakes to the trailer two months ago, and the wiring is in good shape, where i work we have a similar trailer and i don't recalled with the same weight locking up the tires either, When empty you have to de-adjust the e-b-controller or for sure you will lock ur brakes, but loaded its a different story even with the e-b-controller on its highest braking power.

I will try a new elec-brakes controler, if I notice a difference i'll let u all know
__________
thanks Rick

Thats the problem, I have a 7K cap. trailer and it will lock all 4 with 10K on it.

I was having the same problem, you need to adjust the trailer brakes farther out.
Give them every bit you can with out having them rub with the brakes off.

check grounds too. You need more trailer brake, not more truck brake.

Hope it helps, let us know what you find.

If cost is a concern, check out the Prodigy brake controller. Very affordable, but has enough technology to be far more effective than the cheapos.
