hi all,
i got a 1979 f250 with a 300cid. i'm replace the rear main seal. i went to the store and they offered me a rubber seal or a teflon seal. the teflon was a couple of bucks more. I never used teflon before. any one know of any problems with the teflon, is it better than the rubber?
thanks
I have never used teflon main seals, but over the years,I have used teflon hydraulic fork tube seals on motorcycles, and they were the best that ever came along for that.I guess I would have to make sure they came from a known source, like Felpro or the likes.I know that you are not going to want to do it over.Felpro makes a nice one piece pan gasket, put it on dry,I've done a few and any sealer and they like to squeeze out.If you have the original oil pump,I would suggest putting in a new Melling HV,just good insurance,I know because I've had to go back in before, now,if the pans off and it has the Ford pump,it's automatically replaced.
