Try fomoco.com Gounder Resources, then under Ford Engines Reference. They have "spec" sheets on quite a few older Ford engines. Should have what you're looking for.

Great, now the whole world knows how big of an idiot I am with this computer. Sorry about the confusion up above. Dang computer got away from me and ran rampant for a few minutes. I think I've got it tamed right now, but I'm gonna watch my back.
Have no clue on the hp specs, but I do know that Merc made the Comet in the 60s. My brother owns a 65 Comet Caliente, 4 door, 289 HiComp, mid-restoration... we have lots of fun driving in the hills by his house. The one thing we can't get over, though, is how often he has to replace the driver-side motor mount. We've got it narrowed down to the fact that he has a lead foot 99.98% of the time he drives. Mercury -- almost as good as Ford.
I have "The Complete Ford Book" by Peterson, from about 1973. It lists all the engines from about the 50s through 72 with HP and a few other specs. I will look up the '65 390 tonight and get back to you Friday am. The book is oriented to cars (the 300 I6 is not listed), but should be roughly applicable to trucks--I would think.
To the best of my knowledge, Ford didn't start istalling the 390 into trucks until 1968 so it sounds like you have a car engine, of which Ford made many variations in the 60's. If it was an original truck 390 with a 2bbl, it would have in the neighborhood of 255 HP.
Here is what Peterson's book lists for car '65 390 V8s:
300 hp @4600 with 427 torque @ 2800
330 hp @5000 with 427 torque @ 3200
Both have 4barrel carbs and despite the hp differences there was no difference in commpression ratio. In other years the two listings sometimes showed different compression ratios.
The motor has chrome power by ford valve covers if that helps. Somebody said that 390GTs come out with those. The truck it was in was a 75 F250 hiboy. when i ran the tag on the carb it came back as a 65 mercury so i dont know what the hell is going on. No doubt the motor has been switched in the past 25 years. Also the carb is kinda of wierd, it is like two motorcraft 2150 2barrels stuck together
