My favorite is Shell Rotella T Synthetic..... I get it at Walmart for about $20 per gallon. I run it in my 6.0 about 14K miles between changes and it does real good. I get oil analisis done at each change and it ferforms well. Blackstone labs says I could actually run it 16K. But I feel 14K is enough. I would rather be safe than sorry. My 2 cents..
I'm #3 for the Rotella. I just traded in my 06 6.0 with 90,000 on it. I changed it every 5000 which was probably too much, but I prefer to do it more often. I'm not sure how I'll do the new 6.4 but plan to use Rotella also.
Changing your oil - even if it is an oil as good as syn rotella - well under the max limit can only help your engine last longer. Besides - it will never hurt your engine and can only help it. Sounds like a relatively cheap way to make sure your vehicle stays in the game.
I've used a whole lot of Rotella 15w-40 in my truck. Have also run Delo 15w-40 for a while. I've even tried Mobil Delvac 15w-40, Valvoline Premium Blue 15w-40 and Shell Rotella 5w-40 synthetic. I've sent the old oil off to a lab for analysis and all of these oils work great in a PSD.
Different oils have different sounds or symptoms in some motors, so don't be afraid to try more than one if there's something that seems off with the one you try first.
Whats wrong with the Motorcraft oil? Its the cheapest on the market. Thats what I always ran before switching to Rotella 5-40 synthetic. I always changed the MC at 3K intervals and I change the synthetic at 5K-6K intervals.
