Already had a post similar to this, but is it better to do a ful EGR delete, or now i've seen an EGR upgrade from Bullet Proof Diesel, and i never fully understood a what a full Delete does, does it totaly get rid of the EGR system, like it was never there?
a full delete is just that its a egr lobotamy. it removes the cooler and depending on the kit the valve as well.
heres the thing I have looked at the improved bullet proof cooler and It is set up just like the 03 egr cooler wich had very few issues as it was a welded tube cooler with more spacing vs the late model wich is solderd and has narrow spacing betweens fins.
If I lived in a place that did testing and was worried I would go with the improved cooler. if no inspection I would delete.
ok thanks i live in florida so no inspections, if i go to another state(not to live just visiting) can they inspect my truck?
No you will be fine. Even with a delete in a state that does inspectiosn the chances of it being noticed are slim to none. The cooler is pretty well burried under the intake, the EGR valve itself usually stays in place and plugged in so it would take a VERY trained eye to catch it.
If you look on Ebay, you can also see the RiverCity Diesel kits on there as well, for around the same price as the sinister kit, but thats the first time I seen a sinister kit with the best offer deal. I like both the kits personally.
Yea, I've noticed that about inspections. But it won't be long before this admininstration puts it into effect! I'd do all the deletes if I wasn't still under warranty.
I would hazard to guess that sniff testing will be going by the wayside soon. So if the system you install does not throw any codes, you should be fine. Here in MD they don't do diesels (yet) but when you take a gas vehicle in they just plug in to the ODBII port, and check the fuel fill to make sure you have not modified it. They don't even open the hood. The only vehicles that are still sniff tested are those that are old enough (pre 1996 I think) that the computer on the vehicle does not track the emmissions system. And lets be honest (no offense intended) the people who work at the emmissions testing station aren't exactly ASE certified. So my thoughts are when the warranty is done, so is the EGR system.
If you think about the whole scheme of things here, the EGR cooler is the messenger that is being shot. The main scoundrel that causes the EGR cooler to go out is the oil cooler. It plugs reducing flow to the EGR cooler thus overheating it and blowing the seams.
I totally agree CJ...But I guess I see it as the less that can go wrong...the happier I would be. It seems as tho if you do the Bypass filters (Oil & Coolant), The EGR delete and the External oil coolers, then you would solve a good portion of the issue we see. And sad enough, I'm the tinkerer to make it happen.
Spinge, I didn't know that about the ports being used now. I'll pay closer attn when I bring my car in over the next few days.
Now just waiting for the time to get the head studs put in!

No you have it backwards, tail pipe testing is a thing of the PAST, not future. With these newer vehicles the vehicle itself basically has the ability to monitor itself, setting a DTC if it detects a problem, eleminating the need to tail pipe testing. Everything pretty much now is done from the DLC, not the tailpipe. With a custom tune all will show to be fine.
