No brake or tail lights

No brake or tail lights
We have a 1993 Ford Ranger that the brake and tail light stopped working when my husband tried to hook-up trailer lights. He tried to hook-up the light by cutting into the wiring at the left tail light. Having all wires hooked up and the trailer connected he turned on the tail lights and all was good and stepped on the brake and everything went out (being the brake lights and parking lights and ABS light in the dash is blinking). We have checked all fuses and can’t find any bad ones. If anyone has been this dumb and have gotten it fixed please help. ffice
