So much for the 5.4 being underpowered I just lost my transmission :-(, while driving home from one of my jobs empty the truck started surging and hunting for gears of course this always happens at eight o'clock at night in the middle of nowhere with less than one bar of cell phone reception. Finally got through to the emergency phone service and Ford sent a wreck truck to tow me to the local dealer, now not to say I live in the most populated area myself but this place looks like deliverance :-) the idea of my new truck being torn apart is not acceptable in this location the head mechanic agreed it seemed as though he didn't want to get into it I had it towed down to my dealership I got a call Friday night stating the transmission would have to be pulled down and rebuilt, now wait a minute a 2010 with less than 20,000 miles needs to be rebuilt? I thought the point of the super duty were the transmissions, my Chevy or dodge never every drop the transmission in this short mileage do I just have bad luck or is this a common event, how do these transmissions hold up to a diesel or a 10 cylinder with all that torque? Monday morning I'm going to talk to the dealer and tell him to replace the transmission with a new one or he can have his truck back five months and I need a rebuilt transmission no way , and of course they are trying to make a big deal about the airlock rear end I just had installed which I used twice so far going 12mph climbing a mountain road to a job site I told him to give it a rest and don't even try that BS I'll let you know how I make out take care
build a couple hundred thousand and there is going to one in there that has an issue, it is bad luck but not everything can be perfect 100% of the time.
If they tear it down for the rebuild it would be nice to know which component failed.
Sorry to read about the transmission. Every once and awhile a bad one gets through... they are made by man. Yes it but at least it covered by warranty. Be interesting to now why keep us posted.
I was a stick man myself but i really enjoy these new transmissions, in my truck (sig) it's a pleasure to drive 65,000 so far and no problems. Good luck.
My oasis showed that my rig had the trans replaced early on back in 99/00 when she was new w/only around 10000 mi on her (4R100) and no complaints here at 151000+. <knocking on wood> Luck-o-the-draw
The 5R110W is a great transmission. You get an occasional failure, but that is what the warranty is for.
Do not be surprised if they just do a minimal tear down and decide just to replace the transmission. Most dealerships don't keep a real transmission specialist on staff these days.
