hydro locked!!! help!!!
i was going through a puddle and after i got through it the engine died. then i barely got it restarted and it blew white smoke for about 5 min. i then drove it about 10-15 miles and it drove great. said i needed to check my filter so i got a new one. how will i know if my truck is hydro locked.

Yes. Hydrolocking occurs because liquids are not compressible. Therefore, as the piston rises in the cylinder, if there is any water, it will meet a point where the volume will not decrease anymore. This leads to broken internals, most likely a connecting rod. This has always been my understanding at least, I'm always open to correction.

Yep. What Bob said. If you hydro-locked the engine by driving through a puddle then you had to have an open shot up the air intake without a filter in the system. The filter would have difused the water so it wouldn't have gone straight into the engine. You may have saturated the filter enough to restrict air flow into the engine. That would have prevented the injected fuel from burning causing the white smoke and hard starting.
