You have to pry the whole assembly out with something like a screw driver. I used a towel between the paint and tail light. I was paranoid about breaking it when I did mine.

edit: There's two pins on the back of the taillight housing that snap into corresponding holes in the bedside

like said above but pull strait out. dont twist on the lense or you will break the plastic stub's..
when you put the lense back on..put a dab of grease on the stubs..this will make the lense come off a little esier the next time...

I just re-placed mine from the back of the assembly and did not take the lense apart. Maybe I am missing something or it is a different setup.

should be 2 screws in by the tailgate and 2 plastic push lock stub's on the other side of the lense holding it into the fender..take the 2 screws out..pull lense strait out then you can get to the sockets on the back side of the lense and grease the 2 stub's...

Perfect! You may not need to replace your bulbs for another eight years, but you're going to appreciate that grease when you do!

Why couldn't have Ford done that small thing? Cost, I guess.

Sadly no manufacturers place grease on any of there joint sockets as I call them. Fords have the worst design. Just my .02 worth.
