Looking at a new 2010 F-350 not sure which motor I am leaning to the v-10
because my trucks are always loaded/over-loaded. Running max weight all the time 10-11K lbs
My current 04 f-350 SD with 6.0 l diesel has about 325 horse which is enough for what i do except when i pull my trailer as well as being loaded. Then it is all it can do to make it down the highway at 70 mph
The 5.4 has about 300 horse not sure if that will be enough.
Maybe something is wrong with your 6.0L... it will out pull both of those engines.
Agreed....but since he seems to be "gassing" it, definitely the V10 since he's always at max load. My 5.4 is quick (2wd), but there's a huge drop in performance with a big load or when pulling, particularly up grade.
The 5.4L definately will not be enough engine for what you want to do with the truck. Go with the V-10 or diesel and you'll be much happier. The V-10 will get about as good of mileage as the 5.4L running empty. Loaded the V-10 should get better mileage than the 5.4.
Since you say you are running at max weights all the time I would find another diesel. Pick up a later model 6.0. The V10 can handle it but it's going to kill you in gas. The 5.4 wouldn't even be a thought constantly towing that weight.
Something else to consider, the V10 is going to have a better selection of aftermarket performance parts in the Superduty platform than the v8. The same parts could be made to work, used from the F150, but it will take some messaging on certain items that the v10 would be bolt on.
I am mainly speaking from the 2v side, but there is little option for long tube headers or superchargers for the v8 Superduty. Since you're always pushing the limits of your stock diesel, you will certainly need to upgrade the gas motor.
11,000 pounds is right around the factory limit of what a 5.4L V-8 and 4.10 gears can pull. You won't be overloaded even with the smaller engine. The V-8 would do the job for you, but the V-10 would do the job better. When home, I regularly pull 8000 pound loads with my 5.4L V-8 (see sig) without any issues.
If you are pulling 10-11k daily, I would consider another Power Stroke.
Well we'll see.
If can,t mod it then will most likely get full use of warranty and if it blows then maybe think about another diesel after the bugs are outta of Fords new one.
