gauge cluster

Hello.

So, ive been seeing a lot more threads lately about Ford gauges being inaccurate and you can put in aftermarket mechanical ones and all that. My question is.. If I want to keep it all looking real nice and not have 6 new gauges attached to the dash and steering column, is there a way to get a new dash cluster plate to put gauges into?

I am not the type of person who can make stuff from scratch like the guys on shows where they can make custom gauge clusters with skull and bone tach dashes and numbers and all. Just wondering if there is something not so.... skilled.

Thanks.

I've been looking for a 3 gauge set. My mounting options are pretty limited. I've been considering one of those pods that goes up the pillar by the windshield / door. Mine's a '91.

I'll be watching this thread closely.

I want real oil pressure, real coolant temp, real voltage - you know, what we expect.

I want what you guys want! And it to look either cool or cool stock.

these are the gauges i am going with and i am going to take to original cluster out and get a piece of diamond plate aluminum and a holesaw and cut the holes out to mount them in *i know they all prolly wont fit* then after i cut the holes out i plan on taking the duplicolor metal cast paint and putting a coat or 2 on it to make it purdy lol

Hito - keep up posted with progress and pic's.

Sounds ambitious but has potential to be awesome.

fuel guage is $33, voltometer $33, oil pressure $33, water temp. $36, tach $88, speedo $86, and the boost and air fuel i have only been able to find on their site and they are $79 for the air/fuel and $42 for the vacuum/boost. i dont know if i will be able to work those in when i do the others lol coz i still have to buy the sending units and connectors i dont think they come with that....
u might ask y new sending units... well since im going to be right there at them y not put new in

Hitokori, keep this updated as I want to see how its done also. My truck does not have a tach on it. Id like to add a tach and fuel pressure gauge and then have the ones I currently have (fuel, oil, water temp, voltage) and maybe possibly even a trans temp one.

I know the gauges are expensive and itll take some time to collect and work but this'll be the only winter my truck meets snow. Im going to tear it apart for an overhaul. I want to see what you do for your cluster and I might have to copy, but its all on how it looks in the end.

------------------------
1OldFordMan, I thought about one of those pillar mounts but theyre easier to find for ricers and also I would like my primary gauges in front of me on the dash. I do have an air pressure gauge for my air horns and air shocks and its mounted in the empty spot next to the coin tray on the right of the steering wheel. It works well but its a little low. I would have put it on the pillar but as I said, I couldnt find one of those. But this brings up my whole point behind the aftermarket cluster idea.

But, they also sell those 3 gauge sets and they come with a small mounting bracket and the hardware you need to run them. Ive thought about those but then they would be below my ash tray or something to that aspect.

Thinking about mounting mine on the little ledge that sticks out over the heater controls. Under the ashtray is too low for me & I use my ashtray, so removing it isn't an option. LMC has the pillar mount kits. My mistake, just looked again, '92 - '96. Almost $90.00 + gauges for the triple set-up. Haven't checked The Zone or J. C. Whitney.

Ah yes, I also forgot, I have an 88. They dont seem to like making stuff for that small gap between 87 and 90/91. I know what little lip youre talking about. That could work out nicely.

Just not sure about running the lines. Worried they might get tangled up in the heater controls.

what exactly is the difference with the pillar trim on the 87-91 and the 92-96? is the difference where it meets the dash?

this is "suppose to be 92-96/97 trim piece"

this is suppose to be one from 87-91 and if u ask me they look the same. (i know one has 2 and the other has 3) but the over all shape looks exactly the same

HAHA no wait scratch that last one i didnt see the older model one in the back ground i c the difference now :P the base of the 92-96 is fatter but it might not be that big of a deal coz it looks to be the same width it would just stick up a little higher than the dash and out a little further but it is all filled so it would look ok i think
