I was told the loose steering in my '78 f150 2wd was causing by the original rag joint. So I found this Borgeson Rubber ''Rag Joint'' Steering Couplers - JEGS. It would the first one on the list. Then I did more reading and found out I could replace the rag joint setup entirely with a better, stronger u-joint setup? I know it would cost more, but it would last longer from what I know. What all would be required besides the ujoint? a new steering shaft as well?
Thats a bit much for a rag joint, I think LMC or ebay they are like $40-70, somewhere around there. I would just go to your local parts store, there is a company that sells parts labeled "help" I don't know who they are, but it seems like everyone carries it.. get the universal rag joint repair kit, or ask for it. I think there are a couple versions, get the one that fits your truck, and use it. I just got one for $8 here. Its relatively easy to fix, since your truck is an F150 2wd, your most likely not running big tires and abusing the truck, putting a lot of stress on the steering components, this fix should give you years of service.
