What's to blame when I run over a pothole and the steering wheel "jumps". My hand'll be at 12 o'clock and once I hit the bump she'll be at 3 or something lol
And what are some signs of a failing power steering pump? I need to push the brake pedal further and further down it seems. Oil smells burnt.
normally called bump steer, on vehicles with altered suspensions, it can be cause by tie rods that are no longer level. on our trucks id check ball joints and all the steering, and while u r at it check sway bar links for the hell of it
Check your front end like mentioned above and order yourself a steering stabilizer, a shock that mounts I think on your steering control arm, I think thats what its called. About your PSP, moderate to severe whining and hard turning. I don't have the writeup but a complete flush and fill with Mobil 1 synthetic would really help if your pump wasn't to far gone. The flush is very easy, done it not to long ago. Bleeding the brakes wouldn't be a bad idea too..
This spring the shop put in Moog balljoints, and in the summer I put in a Moog steering stabilizer that made a noticeable improvement on how bad she wanders. Same time I put the stabilizer in I replaced all 4 shocks with Monroe life-time warranty ones. Sorta regret it now because in the past month it seems like the truck has turned stiff as a board. Hopefully just 'cause of the cold weather and not ****ty shocks
