I was wondering if anyone has a carter or edelbrock carb on a 390 that they have had tuned properly, I have just done a bit of tweaking and since im not an expert havent changed anything except the idle mixture, I think it runs a bit lean on the top end, so which metering rods should I order?
I would try changeing the metering rod springs first. They are color coded and there is a chart that tells you what color for how many inchs of vacume you are pulling.I run a 750 edelbrock on my 460 when i took it off of my 390 that is all i changed.I bought the calibration kit for it.It's got everything you need in it.GOOD LUCK

Dave If you will `Post` the model number of the carb I can `look` in my edlebrock book and give you the meetering rod size and jet size you have now and what may apply. I have the info on the 1400 series carbs. The model # is on the left front flange near the mounting bolt.
I will have to go look at the carb, I cant find my manual that came with it, I will find out first thing in the morning, I do know that it is a 600cfm, it had manual choke but i converted it to electric.
