i have a 65 F100 with an engine that is not the original straight 6, i do not have the tools to pull the motor at this time, but do need to repair some things on it. i do not know what it is other than a V8, under the valve covers gave me these numbers
E
8015
the 0 could also be a 6 or G or Q, can't quite see it with my eyes. can you tell me what engine this is, or an easy way to id it ie: stamped number that does not require stripping the engine to get at.
inbetween spark plugs there will be casting numbers typically on the FE engines...352/360/390, etc. 65/6 trucks originally had 352 as the only V8 engine offered...on the driver side front of the block facing you there is a 352 in RAISED numbers...this is on EVERY SINGLE FE block...why...cause 352 was the smallest FE engine and is what every FE block begins life as until its finished and bored for the various other displacements it grew into over time.
In short, its not a guarantee of nothing other then that its an FE engine. theres casting numbers on the intake in big characters...on mine it reads C5AE and so on...original to the truck too...it may have the carb tag if its the original manual choke 2 bbl...it would be on top at the front. The exhaust manifolds also have casting numbers...the LH one on trucks are different then cars...the dump is different and theres also a heat riser valve between the manifold and exhaust header pipe.
And FYI, the VIN designation for the 352 in 65 is D and its Y for 66 model year trucks...if the left door has been changed...check for the vin on the passenger side topside frame rail about a foot in front of the engine crossmember...its stamped in in 1/4" tall letters with asteriks (***)on either end...wirebrushing will find it...
The exhaust manifolds also have casting numbers...the RH & LH manifolds used on trucks are different then cars.
The dump is different and there's also a heat riser valve between the manifold and exhaust header pipe.
Text, Section 94, Page 8, basic part number 9430.
Take a gander at the truck part numbers for F100/350 FE right & left exhaust manifolds. The casting numbers are also truck related ('off the cuff' prefixes: C5TE, C8TE, DOTE).
FE Passenger Cars also used heat riser valves (Car parts catalog: Text, Section 94, Page 7, basic part number 9A427), but as you will see from the following, the part numbers are different.
1965/76 F100/350: D3TZ9A427A .. FE Heat Riser Valve / 1/1973: D3TZ9A427A replaced C5TZ9A427A & D.
thanks for the help, i will check for those numbers and items next time i am at my shop.
owning an older ford like this one is a first for me, i am trying to restore her to her former glory but do not know anything about doing it. i am learning everything as i go, so i appreciate all the help i can get.
Thanks for the clarification Bill...As I relooked at what I posted and recall what was done to mine, the RH manifild is the same cars and trucks...aside from the p/n. I think the one on mine ended up a C3 number...same part as my original though...
LH...I dunno what I was thinking when I said cars didnt use the heat riser valves...
