Been reading a lot about the MAF swap and i might know where to get a donor truck if need be.
My question is exactly what all is needed from the donor truck to do this swap? ECM,Wiring Harness? Wondering what specific harness's are needed.
I have seen this a lot of the forum latley and seems to be just a plug and play type of deal? Or is there some severe re-wiring needed?
Also what gains are there with the MAF system over Speed Density as far as power and MPG. I assume none at stock and that the MAF system is just easier to Tune.
there is some at stock you will see probably about a 2-4 mpg increase in economy stock and a slight boost in power but if you do ANY engine upgrades you really need to convert it to mass air because some of the computers programming is set
You won't see any HP or milage gains on a stock motor since it's not the EFI system that determines this it's everything else(vehicle size, weight, gearing, tire size, powertrain combo), and for parts ideally you want a harness from a '94 or '95 and of course a 5.8/E4OD computer.
I know my ECU on my 99 is tied to everything under the hood and everything in the dash.
Will it literally just bolt in and plug in if i have the harness and ECM? I doubt that its that easy. Thats why im looking for more in depth list and description.
Yeah I'm not that familiar with the wiring on that vintage truck either so I can't say with 100% certainty if it is as simple as removing a couple portions of the engine wiring and replacing them with the MAF versions.
I don't think a 93 will have mass air , but if it did there will be a meter at the end of your air intake tube by the air box with a wiring plug going to it .... Lew
thanks, just thinking about some upgrades, and wondering if worth the conversion or just go with mild upgrade that the SD can handle. Just want a bit more low end torque to help out fuel milage, etc.
