D7TE
D - 70's decade
7 -year of decade = 77
T - Truck
E- Engineering
6015 - Engine Block
AB5 - change up suffix
7L29 - cast on July 29 1977
The engine is a 400 as that was designed for the 77 Ford Truck

Since the 351M/400 bare blocks were all cast as 351's, how can you determine from the casting number it's a 400?
You cannot. When finished, the block could be a 351M, or a 400.
Casting numbers are worthless in most cases for ID'ing what the engine size is.
The casting number should read D7TE-6015-AB2 not AB5 .. since the block was cast in 1977.
