I was filling up this morning and they had a public scale. I've always been curious as to how much my Ex weighs so I paid the $3. Nobody in it and just the normal stuff I drive around with inside....9,260 lbs. Wow!
Is this right... all of the Excursion weigh 9000lbs plus. This will be a very important piece of information to know if I cross a small bridge
I was just thinking that this weekend. We were looking at a house on a canal near us - the problem is there is a bridge going into the development with a weight limit of 10000lbs....just my boat weighs more than that! Boat would normally stay in the canal but I'd hate to get a bill from the homeowners association for a bridge for that few times I need to trailer it!
So Scott - what do you consider a 'normal' load? I'm guessing mine is about 7000lbs + fuel (44x7.5 = 330) so about 7300lbs. You have 2000 lbs on us!
In many societies, corpulence is a sign of wealth, superiority, and blessing...
In that light, I elect you as our leader...
Long live the king of the EXs!
I am honored!
Normal load is an aluminum tool box that weighs about 50 lbs. In it is a small tool kit (sockets, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.), winch accessories, tow rope, first aid kit and an emergency pack (food & water, change of clothes).
I think the weight just nickel & dimed it's way up. Bumpers and winch are certainly not light. Beefed up suspension and then add the wheels and tires.
As for the bridge, I have thought about that before. What was the movie with Chevy Chase where they move out of New York City out to the country and the moving van collapses that covered, wood bridge? That could be one of us!
I haven't officially weighed mine yet but I know the 9000 lb lifts at my garage stall out trying to lift it. Even the newer 10,000lb ones groan to get it in the air. I usually use the 20,000lb platform alignment hoist.
Funny thing is, as heavy as these trucks are, they are as capable offroad as vehicles half their weight....
I think it was last year that I stopped on the scale at the recycling place with my X. I got out quick, and mine was 8000# with 2/3 tank of fuel, no passengers, no cargo other than some jumper cables, map, and CD's.
My diesel 4wd 05 in stock condition is 8100 or so empty, including a truck vault in the back with various tools and stuff in it, and I was in it, and the tank was 1/4 or so. So with a full load of fuel and no one in it, I'm thinking 8250 or so.
Load it up with the family, fuel, and gear, and we're probably 92-9500.
