I want to remove the plain windows in my S-cab and replace them with the ones that open out but I can't see how they come off. I haven't spent alot of time trying to take them out but this may be the easy way, ASK. I have enough grief ahead of me with this thing than worring about the windows.
Pull out the chrome trim (if you have it..) have a buddy stand on the outside, peel back the gasket from inside and gently push the window out, or peel back the inner lip and with a sharp razor slice off the inner lip and push out the window.
You won't be using the gasket for the swing out style (they used a different style..) if you don't care to waste the orig gaskets.. I wouldn't but I can get them out without.
I already have the normal style windows out, I should have been clear there. It's just the S-cab style that I'm trying to get at, I want to put them in a truck I'm building.
Thanks
Nice find, thanks. That will work perfect, I have dimantelled and rebuilt alot of these ol'e girls but just never had to remove that type of window and since they are hard to get I didn't want to risk breaking one.
great post and info! i also wondered how these things came out i was lucky to have this option on my 79 great if you can bear the noise at highway speeds the windows tend to rattle pretty good any fix for this? as the pivot points all seem loose
Good info on the windows. Always wondered how they came out. I just wish I could find a truck with the opening windows to swap into my truck, or atleast the parts to do so.
Desert Valley Auto Parts in Phoenix, AZ had at least 7 or 8 Supercabs with good glass when I was out there in October, including at least 2 with the flip-out style. I'm too lazy to look them up right now, but they are on the web and they ship. But they want $$$$ and I am on a Pick-N-Pull budget! I would have got a set of the flip-outs, but I was not sure if anyone reproduces the Gasket.
Standard disclaimers, no relation, blah-blah-blah.
Just checking for interest in a pair of 73-79 swing-out windows. We are vacationing in central Florida this week & I came across a set at a local self-service yard. I did not note either the gaskets or the vehicle from which they were removed: they were lying in a van with a hodge podge of other parts from various vehicles. Not sure of a price, but I could call them if anyone is interested before we leave on Saturday. They were very reasonable on other items I got for our vehicles.
