If the bed sides were falling off of an 84 Ford F150 is there anyway to fix it so that the sides would stay on without replacing the bed? Im not exactly sure whats wrong with it as I haven't seen it but the owner said when he drives the vehicle it feels like the bed will fall off and the only thing keeping the sides on is the toolbox he has in it. I want to buy this truck for sentimental reasons and would like to know if it would be possible to fix the bed without replacing it.
if it's rusted that bad, better get under the truck and look at the frame before you buy it, it may be rusted through, and you will be wasteing your money on a death trap. if the frame is good, just get a new bed, easiest way to go.
the bed on my 86 was like that, the drivers side at the back would move back and forth about 10".i looked at the supports at the tailgate end and it was too much work for me,plus it would cost a small fortune for a body shop.so i just removed the bed and installed a deck.if you don't need the tailgate to move just weld it to the box and that would steady it up for ya,ha ha ha.

if you look under the bed where the tailgate mounts there is some bracing under there that rots from the spray off the rear tires.i tried welding steel and adding bracing but it never held up.you would need someone with some metalfab skills and cut and weld.if you think the truck is worth it have a body shop look at an get a quote.not sure if LMC has that bracing.
she's worn out.check where the sides meet the bed of the box at the back, and see if there is a crack there, mine was and i welded it many times but it never held .the metal was too thin from rust.
