Got a letter from Ford about coolant maintenance. The letter is confusing, it states...
*If nitrate level is between 300ppm & 800ppm add supplemental additive.
*If nitrate level is below 300ppm flush engine with iron cleaner (VC-9) & refill.
*Do not add supplemental additive to new coolant or if nitrate level is above 800ppm.
What should the nitrate level be?
Is high bad or is low bad?
I had no idea it could even go that high, but I'll take your word for it.
I am taking Wix Filtration Corp. data on my test strip bottle which is
0 PPM charge(1 pint/4 gal.
200 PPM recharge (1 pint/4 gal)
500 PPM maintenance dose (2 pint/20 gal)
800 PPM maintenance dose (1 pint/20 gal)
1200 PPM ideal
4000 PPM flush.
Looks like the 20 gallon figures are for over the road coolant systems.
also on the PH test anything reading under 6.5 or over 11 needs immediate attention.
