Today I got outta the truck and smelled diesel. I found the braided fuel line at the base of the fuel filter that runs to the Drivers side head/valve cover leaking. First....How do i disconnect this line from the 3/4" fitting?
2nd...At the base of the fuel filter, where these two lines come from (one for each side), is this my injector pump?
Do i replace the lines, fittings or are there seals that i can replace to stop the leak?? No wonder fuel mileage has been bad (13 MPG). A puddle of diesel is sitting in the middle of the block. Oh yeah sorry, it's a 2000 F250 7.3L.
You need to find out where the leak is. Clean the valley of fuel and try to pinpoint the leak. This is a common part that leaks fuel. Have a look at this LINK.
The link Rick posted is where I would start. This is the most common place for a leak @ the fuel bowl. I tracked mine down to this same issue it apears. New o-rings on the way. Once that fuel gets spread around a little it can look a lot worse than it is under there. By the way, I wouldn't think 13mpg is all that bad. Do you usually get better than that? I also see that you signed on in 2007, but with 3 posts I don't recognize the name. So with that typed, a big welcome to the forum and good luck with your repair.
No injector pumps on 7.3's. The only fuel pump is on the frame rail next to the fuel tank. Look at those o-rings on the drain valve first. Very common leak point.

Thanks all.
This sounds like you are describing the HPO lines that run from the HPOP to each head. There are no braided fuel lines if your truck is stock.
You may have both an oil leak and a fuel leak.
The "braided" HPO lines have replaceable o-rings at the HPOP and at the heads. See this link for some HPOP info including how to remove the lines to replace the o-rings. LINK You can get an HPOP o-ring reseal kit HERE.
If you have a leaking fuel drain valve you can also get o-rings and repair procedure at the HERE link posted above.
I must beg your forgiveness in my ignorance of the engine powering me around town!!!
I was reading the shop manual posted here in the forum and realized I was very wrong in my assumtion of these lines being fuel line!! These are the high pressure oil lines going into the head.
I now understand how to remove them using the tool shown. But what piece usually starts leaking?? The line?? or something else i can replace??
Payson, Miller and all else. Thanks. I'll be ordering parts soon. You guys are great. I've always found and gotten the info I've needed here on the forum. Yeah, not too any post since '07 but have read alot on other issues. Thanks again!!

99 out of a 100 it is a blown o-ring.
If you smell diesel don't ignore the possiblity of a fuel leak.

You're welcome. That is why we are here.
If it weren't for FTE I wouldn't no chit about the 7.3.

If they are leaking you can buy the Orings From the site above. if they are leaking somewhere other than the ends you may need new lines. These lines have motor oil in them and should not smell too much like diesel fuel. If you have a fuel leak the drain valve is probably it. You may want to clean that area up run the truck and see where the leak is. Take off the hood in front of the fuel bowl to get a better view.
