I am having a heck of a time finding the cord to the block heater on my 07. I've check the usual spots without luck, so if I need to buy some sort of device to help my truck start in sub zero, what is the best recommendation? As for oil, I'm running full synthetic which seems to help.
What is the best to use, plug heater, battery blanket, or my least favorite, the recirc pump?
where did the truck originate from? trucks sole in "northern cold states" usually come equipped from the factory with the heater installed. to check if iin fact you have one, just look at the rear most frost plug on the drivers side of the block. if you have a heater, you will see it there, and then you can follow the wiring to find the plug.
if you dont have one, then you can get one online fairly cheap, and they are easy to install. ill look for the part numbers from when i installed mine. i think i paid around 45 dollars total for both pieces (element and plug). mine keeps the coolant around 100 degrees, so it helps a bit.
my personal opinion is that the block heater is the best. or course, a battery blanket would be a good idea also, but of the 2 coolant heaters, the element heater is the way to go.
just one more thing i remembered... the cord is actually a 2 piece unit.... 1 piece connects to the element, and goes about 95% of the way to the bumper, and the other one is the "adaptor" so to speak, with the electrical plug on it. so, you could in fact have the heater, but be missing the plug portion of the cord.
