OK so i have read on this site that a 58-72 9 inch is a direct bolt in for my 46 ford truck. I thought that the 72's were just as wide as the 73's and up. Anyway i went to the junkyard found a 71 ford truck and measured the width, it was way off, later i found a 58 ford truck with no axle, kinda bummed me out, but i measured the leaf springs from side to side and from what i found a 58-61 will work. Does anybody else know anything more about this?
ya the spring perches arent the problem at all, a person can do anything with a torch and a welder. I was just wonderin if there is a car rear axle or anything that would be the same width, and as far as the bolt pattern or anything else goes thats easily fixed also.
Finding the right Ford Rear end is the PC Choice here, but when I looked around (without the benefit of these forums ) I found that the 68-69 and maybe up to 72 Chevelle/GTO were the correct overall width. Unfortunately they were coil-overs, but like you said "All you need is a torch". Here's a pict. (4.11 gears, posi - haven't installed the upper arms yet.)
