Thanking you in advance... I have a 69 f-100 which just started this day leaking water on the inside of the cab below the heater. I'm sure it is the heater core. My question is how much trouble will it be to replace the core? I have a parts truck thats been sitting up for several years. Should I use that core if it is good or is it too time consuming? Would a rebuilt or new one from a after market be the way to go?
rf, heater cores are cheap enough, and the job is involved enough, that I would recomend getting a new one from the parts house.
You can buy some time by removing the hoses at the connection at the firewall, inserting a short piece of 1/2 in. copper, cpvc, or other tube between the two ends to circulate the water. Procrasternation can rule till it's just too cold to ride without heat any longer. :-)

You didn't say if you have A/C. This complicates things if you do. I haven't been into the heater box on my 69 but I recently replaced a heater core in my 79 (no A/C). At first I couldn't figure how to get at the core, but after figuring it out, it wasn't too hard. The new core was in the neighborhood of $35 w/ core for rebuilt one at Auto parts desk. On the 73-79 types. I removed the hoses at the firewall, removed the electric connections to the fan blower (engine side). I think I pulled out the blower although I can't remember if this was necessary. The key to accessing the core was knowing that the entire heater box under dash had to be unbolted from firewall and pulled down to expose the trap door on the back side. The box was held on by three studs w/ nuts on the engine side of firewall. The heater control cables probably need to be disconnected for slack, and the fan speed resister electrical connector needs to be disconnected. This is on the front of the box, just under glove box area on 73-79 types. My guess is that the 69 is similar if not more straight forward.
