Been away from his forum for awhile due to family expansion etc.Thought possibly get back at my 94.5 powestroke. When i bought this truck the motor had been changed to a low mieage take out due to a cracked head.I got it cheap so hought t woud make a good project.I drove it home and noticed the oil level to high and it had a bit of a miss. After 100 miles I checked the oil again and it was high again.I removed the valve covers and found one cylinder with two broken pushrods. I repaired that and have put on about 8000miles since.Problem is oil usage. It varies alot but can be up to 2 qt. per tank.I figured the cylinder was washed but it does not smoke when warm.Blue at cold start for a few minutes.Runs very nice, starts good etc.Have had poeple follow me and no smoke ever. Why does it use this much oil and not smoke. If any of my gas engines used half this much oil they would be blowing blue.Any ideas where this oil is going?
Thanks
oils just another fuel, your burning it one way or another, probably cracked o-rings, 2 qts is not a lot so it would be hard to see in your exhaust....
i figured that alot of oil,if i fill both tanks i add 3-4 qts.does diesel damage rings like gas? i fgured possible ring damage from being driven with two broke push rod but thought it should smoke blue.

Diesel is not like as gasoline because it's a lubricant instead of a solvent. The broke pushrods are probably to blame for the oil consumption in one way or another.
I haven't seen too many diesels that smoke due to oil consumption. Perhaps it is the higher exhaust flow or compression, but it will be hard to detect in the exhaust.
You figure what, you get 500-600 miles per fillup of both tanks? If that's the case, 3-4 quarts of oil IS QUITE A BIT!!! I once had a pickup that had 2 bad cylinders and it used 4 quarts in 500 miles. I didn't know a thing about these psd's then.
Have you checked for blowby? Pull the oil fill cap off and is the oil "mist" gently rolling out, or is it puffing out? I think Ford says that up to 1 quart per 1000 miles is acceptable.
One of the SD guys lost like 8 quarts in just a couple hundred miles a while back. Turns out he had some crappy orings on his injectors and was putting all the oil in the fuel tank. It was hard to tell though cause the fuel diluted it.
So I'd either say injector orings are shot or it's got a slight compression issue.
