i have a 87 ford f150 4x4 i have converted to carb engine.... the problem i have is that it is steaming out of the driver side exhaust but only slightly.... i dont have a cracked head nor do i have a blown head gasket.... im not loseing coolant and i tested the coolant and there is not exhaust gases mixed in..... someone told me that i may have it too lean on the left bank any answers on what the cause is i am very thankful
Is this a project you have been running in the yard and the driveway? If so, wait till you get it going down the road and get it hot, and then see if it still does it.
i just finished it about a month ago..... ive driven it about 20 miles since the convert... i adjusted the lean/rich adjustment screws it runs great except at first start up because i have a holley on it but once at operating temp it runs like a singer..... since it aint leaking water or burnning it off as you will it just conserns me ive never had any vehicle do this.... do you think i have it too lean on that bank???
it only does this at opperating temp.... it is very disconserning.... and on another note it origanlly had a 300 i6 and i replaced it with a 88 mercury grand marquis engine.... it is a 302.... and i was wondering also if the dash tach is accurate for the 302 since it came with a 300....and it also has a np435 bw1345 tranfer case
There is some sort of jumper or something behind the tach that you will have to install or cut to make the tach read correctly for a 8 cylinder. You might do a search, I can't remember the details, but it is possible to make it read correctly.
I believe you need to put some miles on this thing. I don't think you have driven it enough to figure if you have a problem or not, and where it's coming from. If it's leaking water in a cylinder, it will probably start fouling that plug out. But you need to drive it to find out.
thanks for the info..... im kinda worried to drive it if its something major..... but what gets me is that it runs smooth not a miss at all but i will drive it some more and go from there
