Pickup coil

Hi All,

I have a 1985 F 250 with a 460, I wanted to know before i started, do you have to pull the whole distrubitor out to change the pick up coil, or can i reach it from the top? Thanks

I believe you can replace the pickup module without having to remove the distributor from the engine. And yes it is accessible from the top just remove the distributor cap.

You will have to remove the Reluctor to get it out. I have done this with 2 screw drivers to pry it staight up.
Here is an other idea.




Distributor Reluctor Rings Login -

The next time you need to replace the pickup in a Ford distributor that the reluctor is frozen to the shaft try this. Take the cheapy Battery Terminal Puller and put it around the reluctor gear. Spray with penetrating oil and tap lightly with brass drift. Now try removing it with puller. I have had good luck with this trick. (Man, it always seems to be the Ford's)!

Why not do it on the bench? Is it stuck?

You don't need to recurve it, but you may want to while you're in there.
