cruise control problems

I have about a 95 mile drive to work, so I use my cruise control alot,( too many highway patrol to take a chance). My cruise has always worked like clockwork up until the last couple of months, sometimes I can't even get it to activate and other times when it does activate i'll be driving along and it will feel like it's surging then other times it will just deactivate on its own. Any ideas or places to begin checking would be greatly appreciated.

i had something like this in my 94 f-150 check a couple of connections one is at the servoe and the other is at the speed sensor on the rear diff. it might be a bad sensor that may be causing the surging.

Check all the bulbs in your brake light including the third brake light for shorts or loose connections and also the switch in the master cylinder underhood.

The switch is located just in frount of the reservoir, remove it and see it there is fluid. Clean it and reinstall. As a extra measure you can jumper the wire end terminals and see if that fixes the issue. The swithc is normally in the closed position but opens under pressure, if the switch croaks then your CC will not work. all three brake lights need to work.
